Before the telephone. Before the radio. Before the Internet, there was the church bell. The Olivet Missionary Baptist Church bell first started ringing in 1901. The bell alerted the community to births, deaths, celebrations and emergencies. The bell still proudly stands today in front of the church on Escambia Street. Maybe it will ring again one day.
