Parents of 4 year olds- Big Al – the fish that has a hard time making friends is coming to Lake City. Actually, members of Lake City Rotary Club will be reading the book Big Al and giving away more than 900 books this Friday for Literacy Week Florida. Every 4 year old attending a participating center will receive a copy of the book. We hope every 4 year old is in school Friday.

Coffee cupcakes: are you kidding me?

OK coffee lovers, if you need even more caffeine than your double-shot-grande-cafe-mocha is providing to you, check out Fox Clalk (age 16) from the Junior Makers Market.  Fox makes chocolate coffee cupcakes.  We are not even sure this combination of yummy is even legal, but sales appeared to be brisk at the market.  Fox aspires to be a baker when his education is complete and he enters the world of work.  We wish you well Fox.

 

Celebrate Junior Makers

It takes a great deal of confidence to create a craft or work of art and then present that work to the world for judgement.  “What if they don’t like it”, one might think.  What if no one buys my paintings after all that hard work?  These thoughts did not hinder young Marley Gaskins, who was one of the entrepreneurs at the Junior Makers Market last Sunday at Westfield Square.  Marley proudly presented her paintings and her salt-dough Christmas ornaments.  When asked why she likes to work with salt-dough, “It is soft and squishy”, she replied.  Great job Marley!

 

Meet Trip Schnietman, homeschooler,  participant in the Junior Makers Market and creator of flip books.  Trip is interested in making concepts come to life, and he does it the old way, with hand illustrated flip books.  You may purchase a flip book already illustrated or you may purchase a blank to create your own moving images.  His favorite is “man growing a beard.”  We agree; it is pretty funny.  Trip is well spoken and really understands salesmanship at his young age.  Trip’s inspiration comes from his dad, who is a marketer/videographer for small businesses.  We salute Trip and his flip books.
