One would be hard pressed to find a family untouched by cancer. Help fight cancer by sponsoring a Relay for Life team this Friday at Columbia High School. All amounts help the cause. Our founder, Ed Wheeler, is a cancer survivor and is heading up the Eva Crews Wheeler team. Special musical entertainment will be coming all the way from Panacea, Florida. Join us Friday.

Young Leaders
As we age, we all start thinking about what life will be like in our retirement years. Will social security be around? Will there be good healthcare professionals to take care of us? Sometimes when we watch our young people (addicted to texting and other frivolous things), we get worried. Don’t worry. I just returned from an intensive three days of Rotary Youth Leadership camp in Pensacola and can tell you that the future is bright. Our tenth graders excelled at problem solving, taking risks, overcoming fear, team building and other critical skills that will be needed in the coming years. I am encouraged. You can be encouraged also.
Forest Fires & Protecting Your Home
The 14,000 acre forest fire burning in North Columbia County is a good reminder to keep vegetation away from your home. Shrubs and trees that encroach on your home can increase your risk of damage from brush fire and windstorm. Heavy foliage is also a good hiding place for thieves. So, protect your home by trimming trees, shrubs and brush.
Good Friday and Easter
Wishing everyone a blessed Good Friday and Easter. As we celebrate God reconciling humanity to himself through Christ, remember the value of reconciliation in your family and work relationships.

Insurance Rates Continue to Rise
According to the online insurance journal Property/Casualty 360, the insurance industry is paying out more in claims and expenses than it is taking in. State Farm reported a 113% combined ratio last year. This means they paid out $113 for every $100 they received in premium. Such financial results cannot continue long before premiums start rising to catch up. Consumers get ready!
