It is a statistical certainty that if your church does not screen employees and volunteers, at some point, a person with a criminal history will be allowed to work with your youth and children. Those who intend to abuse children, seek access, and they “push on the door of least resistance.” To help the organizations we insure understand the importance of screening, we have launched a special webpage and video devoted to the subject. Feel free to view and share within your organization.

Every Life Valuable
Donna Sandage updated the Rotary Club of Lake City today on the work of the Pregnancy Care Center. The center served more than 550 people last year with more than 2,200 visits to the center. The center operates under the value that we are all created in the image of God, that every life is valuable and God has a purpose for each one of us. The center can use all things for infants: diapers, formula, wipes, cribs and clothing. Stop by the center on Hernando Street and see for yourself the good work they do.

One More Reason to Protect Our Aquifer
The fact that St Johns Water Management District recently issued a permit to Jacksonville Electric Authority to withdraw millions more gallons of water each day from our aquifer, despite our threatened springs and rivers, is not a secret any longer. While we are all concerned about our springs, rivers and drinking water, there is one more reason to support Florida’s Leaders Organized for Water (FLOW) and The Ichetucknee Partnership (TIP). As water levels in the aquifer dwindle, the frequency of sinkholes in our area will increase. This is what happened when Hillsborough County withdrew too much water from the aquifer. Neighboring Pasco County is now plagued by sinkholes. Sinkhole coverage alone in Pasco County can cost thousands of dollars per year in addition to regular homeowner coverage.
