The Columbia County Fire Department and the Columbia County Board of Commissioners deserve a big congratulations for job well done. Yesterday, Chief David Boozer reported the fire protection grade (officially called Public Protection Class) has improved from a 5 to a 4 in areas of the county near fire hydrants. Low numbers mean fire protection is good. Insurance companies reward communities with strong fire protection with lower fire insurance rates. While homeowners will likely not see a premium decrease in their home insurance, business owners should see slight premium reductions over the next 12 months. Please let your commissioners know they are on the right track.
